Bahston

Had a fun time in Boston, amazed by the nice people on the train, the good weather, the summery clothing worn by youngins', huge community gardens, and tons of eating done over the course of two days with Jo and Margarita (beeeet souuuup <3). We got to check out the School Museum of Fine Arts and even took home a bounty of unclaimed canvases and jars left in the lockers (ashamed...ha...)

Environment and Art

 Old news:
At first I was thinking of sending in a tee shirt design for Earth week, until I realized the point of it was to tie dye over the design... so much for intricate constellations and lime green, eye-scratching glory. Maybe it'll work on a black denim tote back or something?

New news new news new:
I was happy to show some of my art at the showcase and excited to see there were other artists on campus, maybe Jane would be kind enough to send me some pics? *hint hint*

I guess this is some idea of an urban poster ad, imagine it blow up in size and pasted over the brick facade on some corner on the lower east side... *tears of joy*

Moss Terrarium

You need: A sturdy glass jar with a lid, clean stones, activated carbon, garden soil, some kind of prodding stick (chopsticks work nicely), mist bottle, sandwich bag, tons of moss

-Collect moss from the woods, scrape just below the roots and try to get it in one large piece. Shake off excess dirt and check for anything freakish like fat worm babies.

-Gently layer the moss flat into a sandwich bag and spray with water to keep it fresh until you start your terrarium.

-Clean out your jar, add in about an inch of scrubbed stones and pebbles (the soil is rocky here, some out of the garden is good enough)

-It's suggested that you add a layer of dry sphagnum moss but skip this step if you want (it just keeps the soil from falling into the water basin)

-Add about a half inch layer of activated carbon (cleans the water)-
get it at a pet store for $4

-Add an inch of soil and mist until moist

-Try to use larger pieces of moss and lay it down however you'd like, if you have different kinds of moss it may be easier to lay down flatter kinds before you put in taller ones.

-Poke at the damn thing, especially tuck the moss into the sides of the jar (you can add hills of moss by packing more soil in some areas). Just make sure everything is in place.

-Add little clay, plastic or glass charms... nothing that will get moldy. If you want to add pieces of bark or sticks then just change them if they start to rot.

That's about it...

Artshowspirations

Artshowspirations: Clinical disease caught after attending a LaGuardia Art Show

Got to see my friends and enjoy all the really amazing artwork. Bought Yanabella and Anna small succulent plants, a bit last minute but I hope they liked them. The centerpiece of the show had this funky little Rube Goldberg ramp, when balls hit the bells at each end, lights on a placard flashed individually. Really liked the diversity of art, but here are some of my favorites.
